Bio from the program of
Amanda's Senior Recital - June 1, 2003.
Amanda
Rose Cagle was born and raised in Chattanooga, under the gentle care of her
mother, Emilie, and grandmother Margaret, who taught her how to read, to
write, and to love the piano. She began taking piano lessons from Mrs.
Janet Roach at the age of seven and transferred to the instruction of Mrs.
Alayne Griffin one year later.
Throughout her years of piano study, Amanda has participated in
many area musical events with great success. She has been a regular
performer in the Chattanooga Music Teachers Association (CMTA) bi-annual
Pianorama concerts. She has received superior ratings in the
Federation of Music Clubs Junior Music Festivals, in the National Guild of
Piano Teachers Piano Playing Auditions, and the CMTA Auditions. As a
sixth grader, Amanda was named the winner of the CMTA Auditions and went on
to earn a superior at the Tennessee Music Teachers Association Auditions and
was given the Honorable Mention for sixth grade for the state of Tennessee.
Amanda is a 2003 graduate of Boyd-Buchanan School after 13 (long) years of
attendance, where she played clarinet for the Symphonic and Marching Bands
and piano for the Jazz Band, as well as serving as accompanist for the
choral program. She also accompanied the annual school musicals and
was the orchestra director for these performances. She is a member of
the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society and was voted Most
Talented of her class.
Amanda has used her musical talents in many venues
in this community. She has performed in various musicals with Leap of
Faith Productions, Chattanooga State Drama Club, Backstage Dinner Theater
and Silverdale Baptist Academy. Her roles have included accompanist,
orchestra member, orchestra director, and actress. She has played with
various bands at the Amnesty International Coffeehouse sponsored by GPS/McCallie,
and with the band for Café Agape at Forrest Avenue United Methodist Church.
She performs on piano and saxophone with Chattanooga's own big band, Sweet
Georgia Sound.
Amanda plans to attend Hiram College in Hiram, OH, on a
James A. Garfield scholarship and major in music. Her alternate future
plans include silently disappearing into the dense forests of northern
Canada, moving into the secret underground tunnels of London, and eventually
becoming the psychotic yet harmless cat lady who lives by the railroad
tracks and speaks in loud Dadaist haikus.
