Jonathan "JJ" Jackson is an accomplished saxophonist, pianist, and arranger
from the Chattanooga area. JJ went to Hixson High school where he flourished as
award winning drum major for the Hixson Wildcat Band under the direction of
Frank Hale. He placed in the All-State Tennessee Concert Band and Jazz Band and
won the John Phillip Sousa Award for his accomplishments.
JJ attended Samford University and graduated in 2000, with honors (cum laude),
receiving a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. At Samford, he was a member
of the Samford Jazz ensemble, Samford Wind Ensemble, and Samford Marching
Bulldogs. His senior year, he won honorable mention in the annual school
concerto competition. Thereafter, JJ taught as a middle school band director in
the Hamilton County School System. He also joined the staff of Central Baptist
Hixson where he arranged music for the church orchestra and praise band, and
served as staff music librarian.
JJ has played with various groups around Chattanooga. They include the American
Legion, Tony D'Andrea's Jazz Band I, Central Baptist Church Orchestra, and the
UnumProvident Big Band. He has been a member of the Sweet Georgia Sound since
January 2003. He is happily married to his beautiful bride Brandi. Brandi is
currently an employee of Memorial Hospital while JJ works at UnumProvident.
