Sweet Georgia Sound Big Band? Yes, these are all the same band.
Sometimes, however, cleverness has its own revenge. In numerous articles in the Chattanooga Times-Free Press, the largest daily paper in Chattanooga, the name has been edited to read Sweet Georgia Brown Big Band. With the numerous gala events and notable weddings for which we have been listed in the town coverage, we have come to be recognized as the Sweet Georgia Brown Big Band to many who read about that event. Perhaps because we have so many members (sixteen players, two to three vocalists and a sound technician) it seems natural that we'd be the Sweet Georgia Sounds Big Band. It could be that, given our large repertoire, we're give credit for providing many sweet sounds that you'd expect from a Georgia-based big band. In any case, the Sweet Georgia Sounds Big Band is a bit more than we intended. Whether you've come to know us as Sweet Georgia Brown Big Band, or the Sweet Georgia Sounds Big Band, we are still Chattanooga's Big Band: Sweet Georgia Sound.
